with a wee quote—
Religion, on the other hand, is the language we use to express faith. It is a language made up of symbols and metaphors that allows people to express to each other (and to themselves) what is, almost by definition, inexpressible.
—and now that you’re up to speed with a religionist’s opinion, I can offer mine:
Religion, on any hand, is the tool used by the coldly calculating opportunist, the deluded, the power-seeker, or the cunning lazy to gain control over the gullible and so seize unearned shares of the results of their productive labours.

BUT REST ASSURED
that whatever religion YOU follow, hold dear, serve, wallow in … is the one and only sole unique pathway to God. All the rest (and there’s thousands) of them are false, untrue; temptations of/by The Devil. They are all evil, foul, false, filthy; disgusting abominations set in the path of men by men to lure the innocent away from God’s One True Path. Be warned.
HOW SHALL WE KNOW
them? That’s easy … ask your own holy official, he will tell you. Only your (i.e. his) is True, whichever it is; all others are false.
Sadly you cannot hedge your bets, it’s all or nothing on just one.
You have only one life, so only one stab at it—if (even in the best of faith with the best of entirely innocent intentions) you goof, you go the Hell for ever and ever and ever and all of eternity too … so you’d better damned well get it right first time.
BUT DON’T FRET:
so long as you have a religion (any religion, it doesn’t matter which) and truly believe … your place in Paradise is guaranteed. You are covered, rest easy.
I’m stuffed. I shan’t go to any Paradise, I fall at the first hurdle … dammit, all I did was ask a simple question of the Christian Good Book and all Hell broke loose:
TO WHOM WAS GOD SPEAKING
WHEN HE SAID
“LET THERE BE LIGHT”?
And by so doing I damned myself for all eternity. I sinned. I am forever an outcast, doomed to wander the planet in eternal rebirth into this same life forever. The sin was questioning—religiosi are not meant to question. You are meant (commanded, actually) to simply accept everything the priest tells you, on faith, as gospel*, and to do as you are told.
* Gospel —““God’s spell”, the word of God (so now you know. I may be cursed, but stick with me and learn a little every day) (or not).
