AN INTERVIEW

A Lincoln.pngwith someone I wouldn’t trust as far as I could throw the USS Yorktown.

Topic?

Democracy, would you believe.

Democracy: which other than Switzerland I would say doesn’t exist anywhere on this planet.

Democracy: which once upon a time was succinctly defined in his Gettysburg Address by one Abraham Lincoln (that’s him, up on the left there) as

GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE

BY THE PEOPLE

FOR THE PEOPLE

then freely translated by The Elect over the years into this reigning paradigm

GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE

BY THE PARTY

FOR THE PARTY

SO:

whose definition do we use when reading such guff as the snippet further down?

My advice is to throw out Lincoln’s lovely but unattainable theorising and go pragmatic. Use the old computer approach, you know: WYSIWYG*, and always bear in mind that what you get is rarely, if ever, what you were promised. After a regime is removed, however, it is dangerous to leave a security vacuum. This is where we failed in Libya and in Iraq.

SPIEGEL: Does it annoy you that you are called the …”

Hydra.pngRereading ol’ Wolfie’s opening sentence there … what bloody democracy?

Is he being naively honest here and admitting he really doesn’t have a clue, or is he cynically relying on two entirely different interpretations of the word? (I vote cynic.)

IF YOUR ELECTED

representatives only nominally represent you … then whose interests are they really serving?

CLUE:

* WYSIWYG being ‘What You See Is What You Get‘. Pragmatically what you get is not what you were led to believe you’d get. But you knew that before you voted, no?
